Semester Project 1: Anna & Juha

I have decided to write down a log of how I have worked on my semester project. Didn´t go so well since I have a memory worse than an insects and forgot to write it all down.

22. Jan 2022. I feel the stress makes me dizzy and exhausted. I have clients (two people starting a hobby business in a few years). I luckily have a way to easily communicate with them.

17. February 2022. All the research has come along and the actual work has started. I am making sure everything is in CMYK so that it can be printed, and I am also figuring out if I can find a place to print in color for free. My logo is coming along great, it looks a little bit like calligraphy, which is good since that is what the clients wanted.

22. February 2022. Okay, now I am finally beginning to destress. I have things “finished” and it now only needs printing. Yesterday (21st) I was working on my project for 17 hours and 30 minutes. Taking breaks but was always ready to edit what I had just said was finished. I started on the 21st and finished on the 22nd. Did you know that I went to sleep at 05:30 and then woke up a few hours later to work this day? Did you know that I was stupid enough to assume that InDesign would have things in CMYK and not RGB? Did you know I spent this whole project questioning and criticizing everything I had just decided was good? Well, now you know. I am readying myself for another night of me being unable to relax due to there still being things I could finetune on my project at 4am. I remember a kid asking me once if I ever stop working on projects. The answer is no. 🖤🤍💜

23. February 2022. I found out what libraries have printers with color, since the closest one confirmed a week ago that theirs were broken but that others close by had. I used my long-forgotten library card and started preparing my printing. The printer refused to work so I got help from two librarians. Apparently many people tried to get things printed and some things were old. People from my local library tried printing at this library. I saw passports etc. Unfortunately, things didn´t print perfectly. While the colors were perfect, the placement on the paper wasn´t. I saw this a bit late when I tried to clip out the smaller prints. I should be thankful that the printer even had all CYMK colors though…

24. February 2022. I am tying up loose ends and double-checking things. I am a bit distracted though since Russia attacked Ukraine today so I am glad I am not actively designing things now since my heart would not have been in it.

Notes
  • The blacks are the way they are supposed to be. Normal text is standard black and larger areas is rich black (40% cyan, 40% magenta, 40% yellow, 100% K black)
  • Don´t expect InDesign to automatically be in CMYK. Go on “Whindow-Color-Color” and check it is in CMYK or RGB.
  • Don´t trust the printer. It migth not place things correctly on the paper. DONT TRUST THE PRINTER!
